“The first time I met Linda was at the Better Way Family Support Group, which she facilitates, I was completely lost and broken. I was simply existing, holding so much sadness, anxiety, anger, and resentment inside me because, everywhere I tried to turn, nobody gets it. There was no point talking to anybody close to me because they simply didn’t ‘get it’. I ended up isolating myself because of this and sitting in the uncomfortable comfort zone of the co-dependency I had (unknowingly) developed through the years of trying to support my addicted loved one.

It is mind blowing to me what the power of sitting in a room of people who not only get it nor judge anything you say, but have more than likely been through the exact same things in their life, is.

Linda showed me that I matter and that as long as I focus and work on me, there is light ahead. It has helped me on my journey of realisation, boundaries, self-respect and most importantly loving my addicted loved one from a healthy distance whilst allowing them to follow their path of recovery.

This group quickly became ‘my’ space and ‘my’ time to just breathe, be myself and to have a chat if I wanted to without any fear of judgement or backlash! Something that had been missing from my life for such a long time. I apply what I am learning here in my daily life and whilst it is a long road ahead with my own recovery, I know I have this group of friends to turn to and maybe help, where I can, in the future too.

I feel like I am getting to know myself again through genuine connections with people and without having to hide behind a front that I had become so accustomed to having. Attending this group has been nothing short of truly healing and life changing for me; I am so grateful that it exists.”
